In an increasingly digitized world, cybersecurity plays a pivotal role in securing transactions within the payments ecosystem. In this course, you’ll take a deeper dive into payments cybersecurity and its practical application in today’s ever-changing industry.

This course follows our new blended learning model, which includes a mix of self-study and live instructor-led sessions. Learn more about blended learning.

The course begins with two weeks of self-paced learning. You’ll start with an overview of the payments ecosystem, getting to know the key players and reviewing current and emerging payment types. This foundation sets the stage for understanding the importance of cybersecurity in the payments industry. Next, you’ll explore the payments threat landscape, examining common threats and vulnerabilities, emerging trends, and effective threat mitigation techniques. Building on this, you’ll review risk management methodologies and learn how to identify, assess, treat, and monitor risk within the payments ecosystem.

As you progress, you’ll gain a stronger understanding of security fundamentals, including the purpose of cybersecurity and the confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CIA) triad, as well as how to identify different types of cybersecurity controls. You’ll then examine security control domains, exploring their various types and understanding how they contribute to a robust cybersecurity posture. The course continues with applied security, where you’ll learn to implement data protection strategies, patching, and vulnerability management processes, and take an in-depth look at enterprise security operations and the product security lifecycle.

Finally, you’ll gain insights into the payments industry’s regulatory concepts and key sector drivers, including critical elements such as payment card industry (PCI) standards. You’ll explore the strategic role that policies and governance play in guiding industry practices based on regulatory norms and security control domains.

During the live sessions with a Visa University trainer, you will be guided through hands-on case studies to deepen the foundational knowledge gained during the self-paced learning section of the course. These live sessions include activities, reflection, regional considerations, and action planning, helping you apply what you have learned to your real-life work.

For those interested in pursuing Visa Certification, attending this course (as a part of your overall study plan) is a great way to help you prepare to take the Visa Payments Cybersecurity Certification exam. You must pass this exam to become certified.
